I look back at all the sports I’ve seen over the years. All the TV shows and films. Everything I’ve seen in politics. They are built upon the careers of people. I’ve watched entire basketball careers of players like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird.
I’ve watched them since college, through the NBA all the way into retirement. Very successful careers for all of these players. I watched as they went from losing to winning in a incredibly amazing way.
Championship after Championship. I even watch now as they manage from the executive offices.
And I watched as the careers of many actors from a young age to now fully grown. Actors like Will Smith, who started as a rapper and worked his way into a million dollar acting career. I’ve watched actors like Morgan Freeman, who started a long time ago on The Electric Company to being one of the most renowned actors of this day.
I’ve seen actors like Patrick Dempsey, all of the Breakfast Club gang among others who’ve grown up to have substantial careers in this industry. So many child actors that I’ve seen grow up to build their dreams in incredible ways. Then I thought, wow…
All these years I’ve sat and watched all of these people grow and become successful right before my eyes and what have I done?
What happened to me?
Is it true that I just sat and watched while others really did the work they were supposed to do? All these years I’ve just sat and watched. I’ve cheered and been a big fan of all of these people.
And I sat in the same place.
Even worse, I saw the same pattern continuing till not so recently. Why hadn’t I gotten up already? What’s the difference between what I was doing as opposed to what they were doing?
All I can think about is how scary that sounded. I stayed in this one place while they just passed me by. And it’s not just the movie stars or the star athletes I’m talking about either. I’m talking about the people around me.
- I’ve sat and watched other people get the promotions.
- I’ve sat and watched other people get their degrees.
- I’ve sat and watched other people make more out of their online businesses than I have.
The pattern continued…and this pattern is the norm for most of us. I’m using myself as an example but this isn’t something that’s all about me. I know too many people who are in the same boat.
Where they are sitting and watching…
- Waiting for someone to notice them.
- Waiting for someone to recognize them.
- Waiting for someone to give them a break…a chance.
And when that doesn’t come, we sit and we watch. We watch and cheer others on. We even critique others who we think should be doing better than what they’re doing. Oh The Irony!!
But we fail to see that all we’re doing is sitting and watching while others make something out of their careers we can only dream of
How many more years will this pattern continue for you?
I’ve shut the door last year on that pattern…
I will no longer sit and watch as others get ahead. I’ll cheer you on but you better believe that I’m gonna be gunning for your spot. I’m not just gonna be a cheerleader…I’m going to be a leader.
That’s the mentality you have to instill in yourself.
How incredibly awful would it be to go the rest of this year just sitting and watching?
I can’t imagine another year like that again. It’s time to get to work and stay there.
- Stop sitting and start getting up!
- Stop watching and start doing!
- Stop cheering and start leading!
I don’t want you to go through another year of regret. Going through another year where you’re saying to yourself, “what happened?”
Why is this year just like last year?
It’s time to turn the corner. Start creating better habits and implementing new routines into your life.
Start hanging around different people who can motivate and inspire you to be more and do more.
There is enough technology for anyone to get noticed, be seen and live a lifestyle full of freedom. There is a whole internet world of access to unlimited information. So there’s no excuse for you not to obtain the skills or know-how to do anything you want.
It’s Your Time Now!
It’s all out there for the taking. You just have the grab it. Seize every moment…Are you inspired yet???
Nothing should stand in your way anymore. Burn the coach and or the TV and start being the person that others are sitting and watching.
Trade places why dontcha!
And you’ll see how much your career will take off. Stop dreaming it and start living it for once.
And don’t make this year one of regret…because that would be yet another scary thought.
This is the self –eval post for the year. I hope I don’t have to do another for you this year . If you’ve had scary thoughts like this in the past, please share no matter how silly or sad it may sound. I’m sure my scary thoughts will top yours any day. So share and see what happens…
